<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder, always detecting the accurate width of paper regardless of variation in the characteristic and disposition position of a variable resistor. <P>SOLUTION: A paper guide member 52 of the paper feeder is set to the maximum paper width Ls, and the resistance value Rs of a variable resistor 58 at that time is found and taken as a point B on a plane taking the resistance value-paper width as the axis of coordinates. Similarly a resistance value Rb of the variable resistor at the minimum paper width Lb is found and taken as a point A. Further, as to the paper width Lc intermediate between the maximum paper width and the minimum paper width, the resistance value rc of the variable resistor is found and taken as a point C. Two adjacent coordinate points A and C are connected to each other by a straight line m1, and the coordinate points C and B are connected to each other by a straight line m2. When paper P is actually placed, a paper guide member 52 is made to closely adhere to both sides of paper, in the case where the resistance value of the variable resistor is r1, as shown in the drawing, the paper width L2 can be found from the straight line m2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
