PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for forming a color image by breaking microcapsules with the irradiation of an ultrasonic signal, and to provide an image forming apparatus with less deterioration of printing quality by performing a breakage processing in ascending order from a small-diameter microcapsule with less influence on the ultrasonic irradiation and performing a printing processing in accordance with printing data. SOLUTION: With reference to a large-diameter capsule wherein microcapsules of magenta(M), cyan(C) yellow (Y) and black(K) are packed, the small-diameter microcapsule wherein bubbles 46 of the smallest capacity are packed is irradiated with the ultrasonic signal, then, the microcapsule is broken, thereafter, the small-diameter microcapsule wherein the smaller bubbles 46 are packed is irradiated with the ultrasonic signal, then, the capsule is broken. Thereafter, the small-diameter microcapsules are broken in ascending order of the size of the bubble 46, then, color is developed without being affected by the bubbles emitted to the large-diameter capsule 40.
