PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome a problem that physical defects such as flaws and stains on the surface of a spacer assembled inside a display panel of a FED (Field Emission Display) easily cause discharge when the FED is driven. SOLUTION: In a spacer forming process F31 for forming a plate-shaped spacer inserted between a cathode substrate and an anode substrate in a method of manufacturing the FED, excess parts to be dummies at both ends of the spacer in its longitudinal direction are prepared in advance, and the spacer is handled using the excess parts in a subsequent spacer inspection process F32 or a spacer cleaning process F33. In a preceding process F34 to the process in which the spacer is assembled on the anode substrate, the excess parts are cut off from the spacer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
