PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cover material used for binding and produced by impregnating a fiber substrate with a resin and then sequentially disposing a colored layer and a surface-treating layer on the surface of the treated fiber substrate, which prevents the delamination of the fiber substrate due to use, the floatation of the colored layer and the surface-treating layer by the delamination, the deterioration of the appearance, and the like, well maintains the appearance over long periods, and prevents breakage, when used for books, binders, files, pocketbooks, and the like. SOLUTION: This cover material used for the binding and produced by impregnating the fiber substrate with the resin and then sequentially disposing the colored layer and the surface-treating layer on the surface of the treated fiber substrate, is characterized in that the basis weight of the fiber substrate is 20 to 400 g/m<SP>2</SP>, the above resin is a mixture of an acrylate copolymer resin with ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, and the amount of the adhered resin is 19 to 56 wt. % based on the basis weight of the fiber substrate.
