A method for producing a composite oxide containing a valuable metal and an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, which comprises subjecting an oxide of a valuable metal selected from the group consisting of metals of the 13 Group and 4 to 7 Groups of the Periodic Table, cobalt and nickel, and an alkali (alkaline earth) metal salt to co-pulverization until the particle diameter of an valuable metal oxide or a substance containing the oxide reaches 10 .mu.m or less in terms if a median value, and then heating the co-pulverized produ ct to a temperature of 200~C or higher to effect a solid phase reaction. The method allows the improvement of the reaction rate and the selectivity of su ch a solid phase reaction, which results in the enhancement of the productivity for the composite oxide. |
