<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device and input method thereof which enable to input one character by one time simple operation even on a small personal digital assistant on which a sufficient number of keys to input characters cannot be arranged. <P>SOLUTION: In this device, the sliding direction of a fingertip on the surface of the input key is detected. The character input device body 1 is constituted by arranging only necessary number of input key areas 2 having touch sensor function and assigned one of character groups 3.
