OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZING PLATE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film in which stripe failure is decreased and a uniform metal oxide layer can be formed, which suffers no change in the physical properties even under high temperature and high humidity conditions and which does not require a vacuum process, to provide a polarizing plate having stable polarizing characteristics against heat generated by a liquid crystal display or heat in the use environment, and to provide a liquid crystal display having high display quality, high luminance and a large panel size while keeping the same thickness as a conventional product.

SOLUTION: The optical film comprises a cellulose ester film prepared by covalent bonding of a residual hydroxy group of cellulose and an aromatic compound; and a metal oxide layer deposited directly on the cellulose ester film or with another layer interposed therebetween by plasma treatment in a gaseous atmosphere containing nitrogen in the vicinity of the atmospheric pressure.
