PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage a quantity of ink contained in an ink cartridge with a memory by a small memory capacity and to use up the contained ink by accurately grasping the quantity thereof in a printing system. SOLUTION: A value of a difference between a minimum assured quantity of ink and an actual quantity of the ink is stored in each of EEPROMs 21a, 21b of ink cartridges 19a, 19b. A printer 5 calculates the actual quantity of the contained ink based on the difference value stored in each of the EEPROMs 21a, 21b to manage the quantity of the residual ink.
