A textile ring spinning machine has a fibre compression stage for drafted loose fibres as they are between two fixing points over a sickle-shaped suction slit (14) with a funnel-shaped inlet. The inlet translates to the sickle-shaped section with parallel edges. The fibres impinge first on the convex edge and then on the concave edge. The sickle-shaped edges follow a circle segment profile. The funnel shaped inlet has a one edge which translates at a tangent into the convex zone, and a second edge which translates through a dogleg profile to the concave sickle-shaped zone.
