PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display realizing both of low electric power consumption and a field of a wide viewing angle. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display comprising a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display panel transmitting the light from the back light unit, the liquid crystal display panel has the viewing angle of over 70°in the vertical and horizontal directions under the condition of≥10 contrast ratio. The display has an optical element between the backlight unit and the liquid crystal display panel, and the viewing angle can be narrowed by controlling the optical element in accordance with operation of a viewing angle control switch.
