PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronization control method and a synchronization controller for accurately synchronizing the rotational timing of a color wheel divided into a plurality of color segments with the color modulation of a video signal with simple constitution in a single plate type color projector constituted to synchronize the color modulation of the video signal with a rotation reference position signal detected from the color wheel. SOLUTION: Only any one of color light beams transmitted through a plurality of color segments of the color wheel 13 is emitted from the color projector 1 synchronizing with the rotation reference position signal, and the color light beam other than the one color light beam emitted from the color projector 1 is detected by a color light beam detector 2 constituted of a light shielding filter 25 and a photodetector 24. Then, the rotational timing of the color wheel 13 is controlled so that output from the detector 2 may be minimum or zero, whereby it is synchronized with the color modulation of the video signal.
