PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield boring machine and a tunnel construction method promoting cost reduction and an environmental protection by standardizing a part of a shield frame each of a large diameter shield machine and a small diameter shield machine. SOLUTION: The front section 3a of the small diameter shield machine 3 is stored in the inside of the large diameter shield machine 2 in a detachable manner, part 2b of the shield frame of the large shield machine 2 is constituted by connecting a plurality of shield frame pieces 18x, 18y and 18z in the circumferential direction, and after the shield frame of the large diameter shield machine 2 is disassembled, the shield frame piece 18x is connected to the front section 3a of the small diameter shield machine 3 to assemble in the shape of a ring, it becomes the small diameter shield frame.
