GOLD CLUB HEAD HAVING LIGHTWEIGHT FACE INSERT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf club head having a composite face insert attached to a metallic body.

SOLUTION: The club head has a volume of at least 200 cc. The face insert includes a prepreg ply having a fiber weight per area (FAW) of 100 g/m2or less. The face insert preferably has a thickness of 4 mm or less and a mass of at least 10 grams lower than the insert of the equivalent capacity formed of the metallic material of the club head. The club head is also provided with a metal cap having a peripheral rim to protect the end of the composite material of the face insert. Consequently the resin content of the prepreg ply can be controlled by managing the timing when and the environment in which the ply obtained as the result is hardened and impregnated.
