PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing apparatus capable of previously grasping existence of a crack in film contained in a cartridge before development of the film and capable of preventing lowering of development accuracy to film. SOLUTION: The developing apparatus comprises a cartridge loading section 1 in which a film-containing cartridge is loaded and a development section 2 in which the film drawn from the cartridge is developed, wherein the development section 2 includes a developing solution sticking means 20 to uniformly apply a developing solution to the imaged surface of the film during conveyance, a crack detecting sensor 3 to detect a crack in the film is disposed between the cartridge loading section 1 and the development section 2, and a standby section 4 in which the film after detection is made to stand by without allowing the film to reach the developing solution sticking means 20 during operation of the crack detecting sensor 3 is disposed between the means 20 and the sensor 3.
