The amplitude of a standing wave (S) is detected, while performing variable frequency control of the transmitted signal. The distance from the measurement object (M) to the detection point and relative velocity of the measurement object are calculated simultaneously, based on the calculated signal corresponding to the amplitude of the standing wave. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a distance measuring device; and (2) a distance measurement installation.
