<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform forced movement and health maintenance using an electric power assist bicycle. <P>SOLUTION: Two health maintenance modes of a normal mode and a forced movement mode are selected according to mode selection of a user. In the normal mode, consumed calorie, pulse, body fat at the time of traveling a bicycle are detected and indicated to an indicating part 41, so as to appropriately indicate an advice message. Also, in the forced movement mode, the bicycle is traveled by applying a load by controlling a regeneration brake and a gear change ratio. A reference pulse number is determined according to predetermined user information and a movement strength level, and increase and decrease of the load is controlled while detecting a number of pulse for maintaining an optimum forced movement condition. That is to say, the pulse number is increased by the forced movement. When it reaches to a reference pulse number, a load level is reduced to wait for deterioration of the pulse number.
