PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital still camera capable of obtaining a highly precise focusing result at the time of performing a focusing operation using a CCD having an all pixel read-out mode which can prepare one picture with even one field. SOLUTION: The digital still camera is equipped with an imaging device (CCD 11) which can output pictures of different solution by a plurality of driving methods, a driving method changeover means (timing generator 33 ) for changing over the driving method of the imaging device, a picture processing means (picture processing part 22 ) for detecting the high frequency component of a picture signal to be outputted from the imaging device and a focusing lens driving means (a CPU 21, a focusing motor 14a) for driving a focusing lens 14 so that the high frequency component detected by the picture processing means becomes the maximum and the camera is constituted so that, when the digital still camera enters into a focusing operation, the imaging means is changed over to a drive for obtaining higher resolution by the changeover of the driving method changeover means.
