PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of a zoom function without increasing the cost of an apparatus. SOLUTION: A digital camera 2 stores the zoom position of a zoom lens 30 into an EEPROM 57. When a picture is taken again after the operation of putting the zoom lens 30 back to its initial position is done, a zoom motor 33 automatically drive the zoom lens 30 to a zoom position stored in the EEPROM 57 right before the above operation or to a zoom position which is highly frequently used and is derived from the history of zoom positions stored in the EEPROM 57.
