PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a liquid crystal display element having memory properties and performing display utilizing selective reflection of a cholesteric liquid crystal phase, by which contrast and aγ-curve are made appropriate and satisfactory display can be performed. SOLUTION: Drawing is performed by applying a voltage pulse group including a reset period, a selection period, and a retention period to a liquid crystal and in the drawing, the ratio Ts/Tlc of the time Ts (ms) from the end of the reset period to the start of the retention period to the time Tlc (ms) required for transition of the liquid crystal from a homeotropic state to a spiral structure state is set so that expression of relation (1) of 0.1≤Ts/Tlc≤1.0 is satisfied.
