<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of difficulty in combining high image quality with a long service life since in AC electrification, a surface layer of a photoreceptor is deteriorated due to the discharged amount being greater than in DC electrification and when the film thickness of the photoreceptor is made thin to improve the image quality, the service life of the photoreceptor is shortened. <P>SOLUTION: Normally DC electrification is carried out and AC electrification is carried out, as is suitable, according to output image data.
