PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make image quality high in definition by a comparatively simple circuit structure. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with an interpolation processor 2 for obtaining pixel data of each interpolation pixel according to interpolation operation using a number of sampling functions, and a YC separation circuit 3 for separating a luminance signal and a color signal from an interpolated composite video signal by applying a predetermined operation to adjacent pixel data in lines of interpolation pixels. Also for the composite signal after interpolation, phases of color signals are made to be opposite phases to enable YC separation after making an image high in definition, thereby performing interpolation not for each of the R signal, G signal and B signal but for only one composite signal.
