PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density memory recording device which has a recording density of≥7.75 gigabit per square centimeter and prevents the occurrence of a fluctuation in reproduction output, demagnetization of magnetization and degaussing of a recording layer. SOLUTION: A soft magnetic underlayer and a vertical recording layer are successively stacked on a magnetic disk substrate. The soft magnetic underlayer is formed of a three-layered structure which consists of a magnetic domain control layer including an antiferromagnetic layer interposed between first and second soft magnetic layers. When the film thicknesses of the first and second soft magnetic layers are respectively defined as d1 and d2, both of d1 and d2 are≥25 nm and≤150 nm and d1/d2 is≥0.3 to≤1.5. Thereby, the magnetic domains of the soft magnetic underlayer of the vertical magnetic recording medium can be controlled and the domain wall displacement can be suppressed.
