PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily recognize a customized optical disk device. SOLUTION: When the optical disk device 1 is customized by a user, a customizing parameter is stored in a flash ROM 33 by a system controller 32. Upon the reception of an enquiry command at the time of starting the host device of a PC2 or the like, the system controller 32 checks the contents of the flash ROM 33 and returns a command indicating the completion of customization.
