PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating garbage, with which the volume of garbage can be reduced quickly and the environmental deterioration can be prevented by restraining emission of a bad smell from this apparatus. SOLUTION: This apparatus 1 for treating garbage is provided with a treatment vessel 12 where garbage is housed, a crushing/agitating mechanism 13 for crushing/agitating the garbage housed in the vessel 12 by rotation, a hot air supplying means 14 for supplying hot air into the vessel 12, a dust collecting means 15 for removing dust from exhaust gas to be discharged from the vessel 12, an exhaust gas cooling unit 80 for cooling the exhaust gas and a deodorizing means 17 for deodorizing the exhaust gas.
