PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it faster to stop rotating a drum and fix it in a drum-type washing machine having a laundry opening on the drum periphery. SOLUTION: In stopping a drum, this washing machine rotates a rotor 202 by means of a driving system using both magnetic attraction and repulsion forces between the rotor and a stator of a drum motor (A). When a magnet 203b attached to the rotor 202 passes through a hole IC board 203a, and a detection signal for indicating the locked position is obtained (B), the driving system is switched into another one using only the magnetic repulsion force between the rotor and the stator so as to bring the rotor 202 to a temporary stop (C). Then, the rotor 202 begins to gradually rotate in the reverse direction at a slow speed. When another detection signal is obtained, an engagement pin is advanced from a drum locking drive unit 21 to be engaged with a groove part 22 to lock the drum (D). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
