<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device in which an incidence efficiency to a light guide panel from a light source is enhanced by optimizing the shape of a reflector. <P>SOLUTION: A distance L1 between a pair of flat reflecting surfaces 24A and 24B of a reflector 17 is larger than the outside diameter OD of a light source 16. Nodal lines β1, β2 between the flat reflecting surfaces 24A and 24B of the reflector 17 and a non-flat reflecting surface 25 are arranged between a first position and a second position in relation to an imaginary plane γ parallel to a light incident surface 15c containing a central axis line α of the light source 16. The first position is situated 0.25 times the outside diameter OD of the light source 16 from the imaginary plane γ at the opposite side to the light incident surface 15c.
