PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the development man-hour of a program for speed map generation, to make memory capacity small, and to shorten the processing time of speed map generation by making simple and efficient algorithm for generating a speed map of equipment to be connected to an IEEE1394 serial bas which has functions of a bus manager. SOLUTION: After determining the value of a maximum transfer speed between adjacent nodes in a speed map according to information on connection states of respective nodes and information on the maximum transfer speed in a topology map (S12), the bus manager generates the speed map by repeating a process of determining values of undetermined maximum transfer speeds in the speed map according to values of determined maximum transfer speeds in the speed map until the values of maximum transfer speeds between the respective nodes in the speed map are all determined (NO at S13).
