PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion device and method capable of efficiently burning biomass that is a coal alternative inexpensive fuel and/or an organic waste in a gas or oil combustion facility or the like. SOLUTION: In this combustion device 24 comprising a burner 23 for supplying and burning a gas or oil 21 into a furnace 22, a biomass burner 12 for supplying the biomass 11 into the furnace and a fire grate 25 provided on the bottom of the furnace are provided on the bottom side of the gas or oil burner 23. Since the ash component of the biomass is small, it can be mixed and efficiently burnt even in a facility having no large-scale ash treatment facility such as the gas or oil combustion facility.
