PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a rust prevention method where the corrosion of steel covered with a fireproofing material is suppressed, and simultaneously, in the fireproofing material covering the steel, peeling caused by a rust prevention countermeasure does not occur in case of a fire. SOLUTION: The stage where, using an electrolyte-containing aqueous solution capable of generating rust on the surface of steel to be covered with a fireproofing material at the time when the surface of the steel is wetted with the solution, the surface of the steel is wetted, thereafter, the surface of the steel is dried, subsequently, the steel is held to a gas atmosphere having a relative humidity of≥70% and simultaneously containing oxygen to generate rust on the surface of the steel, and thereafter, the rust which is not closely stuck to the surface of the steel is removed is regarded as one cycle, and the cycle is repeated for two or more times. Thus, the rust layer firmly stuck to the surface of the steel is formed, and the rusting of the steel is prevented by the firmly stuck rust layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
