PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize or eliminate an effect of a surface of a tread forming mold in molding a tire. SOLUTION: The apparatus is constructed in such a manner that it assembles a tread 12 or a tread-belt reinforcement assembly 14 and transfers it onto a tire assembling drum. The method using the apparatus includes plastering at least one uncured tread member 12 on the radially foldable assembling drum, inserting at least one uncured tread member 12 and the radially foldable assembling drum into an opened segmented mold in which a plurality of tread forming segments are radially enlarged, shrinking a plurality of the tread forming segments to push them into at least one uncured tread member 12, folding the assembling drum, and removing the assembling drum thereby to transfer at least one uncured tread member 12 in the mold.
