The position indicator (1) has a hollow cubical body (2) with rods (4) extending in X, Y and Z directions from corners of flat square faces (3) of the cubical body. A ball with two diametrically opposed rods (5) is trapped inside the body by a clamping body. Apertures (10) in the clamping body and the hollow cubical body are large enough to allow some angular movement of the rods attached to the ball.
