A method for prophylaxis or therapy of hyperacusis symptoms involves applying a topical formulation (A) containing a local anesthetic (I) to intact skin of the outer ear (up to and including the tympanic membrane), so that (I) is released in this region to act on the regional nerves at this site. ACTIVITY : Auditory; Anesthetic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Inhibition of rapid sodium ion influx; local neural blockage.
