GENE ENCODING A RIBOSOME-INACTIVATING PROTEIN, KNOWN AS RECOMBINANT MUSARMIN 4, EXPRESSION IN BACTERIAL SYSTEM, METHOD OF OBTAINING SAME AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF

The invention relates to a gene encoding a ribosome-inactivating protein, known as recombinant musarmin 4, the expression of said protein in a bacterial system, the method of obtaining same and the applications thereof. More specifically, the invention relates to a method of obtaining the nucleotide sequence of the gene and the actual sequence that encodes a ribosome-inactivating protein known as recombinant musarmin 4. The invention relates to the aforementioned method, the polynucleotide sequence or gene, and the recombinant protein expressed in a bacterial vector. The invention can be used for the following applications: 1) the production of musarmin 4 or part thereof in micro-organisms and plants by expression of the musarmin 4 gene or part of same; 2) the production, in micro-organisms and plants, of fusion proteins containing musarmin 4 or part thereof and a peptide or protein that directs the resulting fusion protein towards specific targets in human therapy, in particular, for cancer and AIDS; 3) the production of fusion proteins containing musarmin 4 and a peptide or protein that directs the resulting fusion protein towards specific targets, which is intended to increase the resistance of plants to diseases caused by phytopathogenic fungi, plant viruses and animal predators; 4) the construction of plants containing the musarmin 4 gene or part thereof, which are resistant to phytopathogenic fungi, plant viruses and animal predators; and 5) the production of musarmin 4 or the larger and smaller derivatives thereof, for standard uses of ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) as a toxic component in immunotoxins and conjugates, as direct-action antiviral proteins, particularly against the AIDS virus, or as antipathogenic agents against phytopathogenic fungi, plant viruses and animal predators.
