PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide an ion trap mass spectrometer that allows small mass number product ions to be detected without losing the resolution. SOLUTION: The mass spectrometer comprises a multipole ion trap for accumulating ions, an apparatus for irradiating light with respect to ions accumulated in the ion trap, and a detection apparatus for detecting ions ejected from the ion trap. In the mass spectrometer, the RF voltage amplitude applied to the ion trap is changed from a large value V1 into a small value V2 before and after the laser irradiation. By using a time of flight mass spectrometry part with high mass number accuracy and a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry part as the detection apparatus, the analysis with high mass accuracy can be performed.
