PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of shocks due to a rattling jam caused by jamming of backlash during a garage shift. SOLUTION: A control method of an automatic transmission includes a step (S102) for reading a pre-operation when a demand for a garage shift gear change is made (YES in S100), a step (S104) for detecting AT oil temperature, a step (S110) for carrying out rattling jam control when the judgement of occurrence of backlash is made on the basis of the pre-operation and the AT oil temperature (Yes in S106), and a step (S118) for carrying out a demanded garage shift gear change processing when brake is not released before the predetermined time (NO in S114) and the rattling jam control is continued until a predetermined time elapses (YES in S112).
