POWER FLOW CONTROLLER WITH CURRENT LIMITING FUNCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power flow controller with a current limiting function constituted by combining an AC superconducting reactor of extremely low loss. SOLUTION: Power is controlled by inserting a control unit into each of a plurality of downstream systems branched from an upstream system. Each control unit is arranged to have a current limiting function by connecting a series circuit of a variable coil capable of varying the inductance and a capacitor in parallel with another coil and then connecting the parallel circuit with an arrestor for protecting the coil, the capacitor or the system itself from an abnormal voltage. Each control unit is controlled from a central control center to vary the inductance of the variable capacitor, to generate phase lead and phase lag impedances by avoiding series resonance conditions, to regulate phase lead and phase lag powers and to distribute required phase lead and phase lag powers among a plurality of downstream system thus performing automatic power flow control.
