<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vegetable trichogenous active ingredient free from adverse effect by hormone, or the like, enabling oral ingestion and excellent in hair growth, hair restoration and prevention of depilation and to provide a method for extracting and separating the active ingredient, and to obtain a hair-growing and hair-restoring agent and a health food by using the method. <P>SOLUTION: The vegetable trichogenous active ingredient comprises an ingredient obtained by further extracting and fractionating a fat-soluble component extracted by a ≥6C aliphatic hydrocarbon from Panicum miliaceum by using a lower aliphatic alcohol. The method for extracting and separating the vegetable trichogenous active ingredient comprises steps of chromatography comprising a step obtaining the fat-soluble component extracted by bringing seeds of Panicum miliaceum into contact with the ≥6C aliphatic hydrocarbon, a step for bringing the fat-soluble component obtained in the above step into contact with a filler for ion exchange and eluting the fat-soluble component absorbed into the filler for the ion exchange with an aqueous solution of the lower aliphatic alcohol, and a step for recovering a fraction rich in the content of the trichogenous active ingredient eluted in the above step.
