<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize low-cost and high-quality high-speed/large-capacity transmission without increasing the transmission speed nor making an optical receiver large-sized. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical receiver which corrects errors of an optical receive signal and outputs the error-corrected signal as a receive signal, a soft decision means that the optical receiver is equipped with selects (2<SP>n</SP>-k-j) (where (j) is an integer satisfying 0≤j≤(2<SP>n</SP>-k-1)) of (2<SP>n</SP>-k) (where (n) is a natural number and (k) is an integer satisfying 0≤k≤(2n-1)) results of multilevel discrimination based upon the data pattern of the optical receive signal and then generates a hard decision result and reliability information for soft decision decoding from those selected multilevel discrimination results. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
