PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an information recording and reproducing device from being damaged by sufficiently absorbing shock energy even if the information recording and reproducing device is accidentally dropped on a floor or the like, and to load the information recording and reproducing device on the standardized loading section of an information processor, in the information recording and reproducing device being mountable and demountable through a connector on and from the information processor and having an approximately rectangular parallelepiped shape. SOLUTION: The information recording and reproducing device comprises: a device main body 1 consisting of the information recording and reproducing device having a specific dimension out of a series of dimension groups specified by the outside dimension standards for the information recording reproducing device; a shock absorption member 2 surrounding the outside surface of the device main body; and a connection means 3 for integrating the shock absorption member into the device main body. The dimension of the composite is set to within the dimension of the information recording and reproducing device greater than the dimension of the device main body by one-size or two-sizes. The connector 11 used for the information recording and reproducing device with the above dimension is disposed at the same position as the information recording and reproducing device with the above dimension in a state in which the connector 11 is connected to the connector 1m of the device main body.
