PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet thickness measurement method and a sheet thickness measurement device capable of accurately measuring thickness of a sheet on a roll from a distance with combination of parallel laser beams, a television camera and an image processor by utilizing image processing technique to devise a data processing method. SOLUTION: A surface part of the sheet 3 wound around a cylinder 2 is irradiated with light by a light irradiation device 11, the irradiated part is pictured by the camera 12, an end position of the irradiated part is detected by the image processor 13 from an image pictured by the camera 12 and the thickness of the sheet 3 is calculated from positional data of an outer peripheral end of the sheet 3 on the cylinder 2 calculated from the end part position and positional data of the outer peripheral end of the cylinder 2 without the sheet which is measured in advance.
