PURPOSE: A bit mapping method in a coded modulation system is provided to reduce a frame error during repeated demodulation/decoding by allocating bit patterns having high possibility of error generation in the constellation at constellation point. CONSTITUTION: A bit mapping method in a coded modulation system maps a predetermined bit value to each of a constellation point in a high-order constellation to generate transmission symbols. The bit mapping method maps a bit pair(1100,0100) having high possibility for generating errors during a bit mapping operation to constellation points far from each other, respectively. A relative euclidean distance which is measured based on probability is set to be larger than an euclidean distance which is measured on a constellation using a gray mapping.
