PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorbing material having excellent absorbing performances required for a water absorbing material intended for a viscous liquid such as blood. SOLUTION: A galactomannan water absorbing material is characterized in that the interior of the galactomannan is cross-linked only with borate ions and the bulk density is≥0.1 g/mL. In the water absorbing material, the particle surface may further preferably be cross-linked with a≥3-valent polyvalent metal ions. The water absorbing material has a blood absorbing ability as follows. The time of absorbing blood in an amount of 5 times of the own wight is within 180 s first time and within 300 s second time at an interval of 10 min kept.
