PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively lubricate a chain mechanism arranged within a horizontal plane of a vertical engine. SOLUTION: A first chain mechanism 89 transmitting the rotation of a crankshaft 13 of the vertical engine E to a camshaft 73, and a second chain mechanism 90 transmitting the rotation of the crankshaft 13 to a balancer shaft 79, are forcibly lubricated with oil jetted from first to third oil jets 101, 103, 105 provided inside a chain chamber 54. The oil jet direction of the first and third oil jets 101, 105 toward an engaged part of the first and second chain mechanisms 89, 90 is inclined with respect to a plane formed by the travel locus of chains 30, 82.
