PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new agent for separating an optical isomer, having high resolution ability. SOLUTION: The optically active polymaleimide derivative represented by general formula (3) [wherein, for example, R3-X3, R4-X4, R5-X5and R6-X6are each a hydrogen atom, and R1-X1, R2-X2, R7-X7and R8-X8are each independently a hydrogen atom or a benzyl group (with the proviso that all of R1-X1, R2-X2, R7-X7and R8-X8are not the same substituent)] is used as the agent for separating the optically active compound.
