PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obviate the occurrence of degradation in contrast and change in display color even if display device is seen diagonal by improving the narrow visual field angle characteristic based on the difference in the polarization state of the light propagating in the liquid crystal layer of an liquid crystal display device by the incident direction on the liquid crystal layer. SOLUTION: This device has a liquid crystal cell formed by holding the twist-oriented nematic liquid crystal layer 7 between a pair of electrode substrates 4 and 12 arranged to face each other, a pair of polarizing plates 1, 13 arranged in the position on both sides across this liquid crystal cell and an optical compensation sheet 2 disposed opposite to the polarizing plate 1 on the exit side. This optical compensation sheet 2 contains uniaxial dichromatic dyestuff capable of bringing the elliptically polarized light in the direction oblique with the surface of the liquid crystal cell to linearly polarized light. |
