Embodiments of the present invention provide a network subscriber usage recording system and method with configurable audit system. In one embodiment, a network subscriber usage recording system 30 comprises an encapsulator 220 for reading a plurality of network subscriber metadata records from a network data source and converting the network data records to a plurality of data normalized metered events. An aggregator 222 is provided for processing the data normalized metered events to create aggregated normalized metered events. An auditor 102 is provided for generating audit normalized metered events based on the data normalized metered events. The system may be composed of a collector which comprises the encapsulator 220, aggregator 222 and auditor 102. The system may utilize audit attributes 320,321,322, audit points 310,312 and audit operations 314,315,316 in order to enable detailed audit of individual data events to provide fine granularity down to individual records or record fields.
