PURPOSE: A method for providing an avatar image service in a telephone call and a system therefor are provided to enable a user to transmit avatar data to a mobile communication terminal of the other party so as to be reproduced an avatar image at the mobile terminal of the other party, thereby providing the convenience and amusement. CONSTITUTION: A calling mobile communication terminal, that is, avatar transmitting terminal(110) generates a call request signal to call at a telephone number inputted or selected by the transmitting terminal. The avatar transmitting terminal(110) judges whether the avatar transmitting terminal(110) is set in an avatar mode. If so, the avatar transmitting terminal(110) reads avatar data to be transmitted. The avatar data is transmitted to an avatar reproducing terminal(112) through a mobile communication network. The avatar reproducing terminal(112) receives/reproduces the avatar data.
