Convertible single-turn to multi-turn gaming steering wheel

A computer control device in the form of a steering wheel is rotatable in a first 'native' operating mode from a centred position in a clockwise direction for over 180{ and in an anti-clockwise direction for over 180{ to provide more than 360{ lock-to-lock. There is provided a stop for limiting the rotation of the steering wheel such that there is provided a second 'legacy' operating mode in which rotation from the centred position is at most 180{ in a clockwise direction and at most 180{ in an anti-clockwise direction to provide at most 360{ lock-to-lock. Also provided is an operating mode module configured to communicate with a host system to set the operating mode to be in either first native operating mode or second legacy operating mode. There may be provided a start-up module to set the wheel to the legacy mode upon staff-up. There may be a manual override for overriding the staff-up module. There may be provided a centring module to count a number of angular centres of the wheel lock-to-lock to determine a centre position of the wheel. The stop may be a soft stop. The wheel may feature a force feedback system.
