PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium excellent also in high temperature and high humidity resistances while using a silver reflecting film which ensures a cost lowering effect and a high reflecting characteristic as compared with a gold reflecting film and to provide a method for producing the medium. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium is obtained by successively stacking at least an organic dye-containing recording layer, a light reflecting layer comprising a metal and a protective layer on a light transmissive substrate. The light reflecting layer is a silver-base thin film, and when X-ray diffraction intensity by (111) face and that by (200) face in an X-ray diffraction spectrum measured by a θ-2θ method (θ is the angle of incidence on the surface of the light transmissive substrate) are represented by I (111) and I (200), respectively, the silver-base thin film satisfies I (200)/I (111)>0.40. In the formation of the light reflecting layer, the silver-base thin film is obtained by controlling the pressure of a sputtering gas in a sputtering chamber (e.g. to 0.23-1.00 Pa). |
