1,038,819. Wedge extracting devices. AMP Inc. July 22, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 31201/65 Heading B4C. [Also in Division E2] A device for use in extracting a wedge 2 from a receptacle 1 comprises a spring clip 6 having resilient side walls 8 for gripping the receptacle and an abutment 10 extending from a base 7 of the clip and adapted to transmit to the receptacle a force applied to move the receptacle relative to the wedge when the latter is restrained against movement in the direction of the applied force. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the clip 6, which may be of spring steel on resilient plastics material, is sprung open by means of handles 9 formed on the walls 8 so that a receptacle 1, in which electric cables CM are gripped by the wedge 2, may be engaged therewith. The combined assembly is then inserted into a tool having an abutment 4, Fig. 4 (not shown), for engagement with the rear end of the wedge, a plunger 14, which may be driven by means of an explosive charge, being arranged to strike the abutment 10 on the clip, thereby separating the wedge from the receptacle. In modifications, one or both handles 9 may be dispensed with. |
